Where the Health Can You Eat Around Here?

Dining recently hosted a Healthy Menu Tasting that was FREE to the campus community. The event was held at the Terra Fresca Restaurant in the University Center. From 3:30-5:00 PM students and campus members were served tasty and nourishing dishes from the new Spring Healthy Monday’s menu currently available at the campus dining halls, and several cafes. Even with a downpour of rain approximately 150 guests arrived & campus chefs were kept busy serving up items like: Green Curry Veggie Bowls, Eggplant Lasagna and Chipotle Seitan Fajitas. Campus partners including OPERS, Wellness Center, and our Health Center joined in for the afternoon and brought along resources and information to share with the crowd! 

If this interests you, on April 23rd from 11:30-2:30 PM in the College 9 and 10 Multipurpose room, Dining will be hosting their 4th Annual Organic & Local Foods Fair. This is also a free event. And everyone is welcome to stop in! 

Come meet and talk with our purveyors and vendors of local /organic products that are served here at UCSC. Meet growers, manufactures and supplies who are keeping engaged with REAL food! Plenty of free samples, tasting of new and interesting foods, share your likes and engage with others about what excites your palate!- Don’t miss this event, it only happens once each year! Yes, this will be another Zero Waste Event!

Join the Kresge Natural Foods Co-op
The Kresge Community Natural Foods Co-op is a non-profit student-run food store located on the south side of Kresge College. It has been a Kresge College tradition for over twenty years, supporting small farmers, the UCSC Farm Project, and the Kresge Organic Garden. While anyone can buy food at the Food Co-op, members receive a discount. The Co-op operates as a collective and a variety of membership options are available. Special pricing is available on bulk orders. Come in for groceries, lunch, snacks, hot coffee, tea, or just to spend time with your friends. Hours: Weekdays 9 AM - 6 PM To contact the Food Co-op, call 426-1506, or attend the bi-weekly meetings every other Sunday at 11 am in the Student Lounge.

Enroll in ESLP for Spring quarter
We invite you to enroll in the Education for Sustainable Living Program’s (ESLP) class for Spring quarter! The Spring class incorporates both 2 and 5 unit student led sections and a Monday Night lecture series. Some section topics include: restoration and ecopsychology, land and habitat conservation, sustainable urban design, green business, vegan cooking, and other topics in the Blueprint for a Sustainable Campus. Sign up through College 8 for CLEI 61 or 161 for Spring Quarter (2-unit and 5 unit options available). 

Garden Market Carts
The garden market cart is a stand created through the collaboration of four different campus gardens (College Eight, Kresge, PICA, and Stevenson) that aims to give out homegrown campus goodies and to educate students and staff about our school's gardens. This quarter, the cart will be at S&E Library on Friday, January 25th, from 10-11:30AM and at McHenry Library on Friday, February 15th from 10-11:30AM to pass out free veggie and herb bundles. Those interested in getting more involved should contact Lidia Tropeano.

Energy Upgrade California: Homeowner Workshop at Ecology Action

Later this month, Ecology Action and PG&E will be hosting a FREE energy workshop for homeowners! The program will spotlight the Energy Upgrade California program:

The Energy Upgrade California program provides homeowners an opportunity to improve energy and water efficiency, save money, increase home comfort, help the environment and get up to $4,000 in incentives for making energy-efficiency upgrades to their homes.  The Energy Upgrade California program was created to help reduce energy consumption in California and generate business for local contractors.  

The meeting is slated to cover home energy upgrades, and how they can lower your utility bills, increase your home comfort, protect the environment by saving energy - and maybe even get you some great rebates.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 24th from 6:30-8:30pm at Ecology Action (877 Cedar Street, Suite 240). You can register for the event here.
